1-Step Equations, With Negative Integers - Set 1

Explanation:

"Solving and equation" means finding the value of the variable that makes the equation true.  One method is to "undo" the operation by using the 'opposite operation'.  Addition & subtraction are opposite operations.  Multiplication & division are opposite operations.  A negative times a positive is negative.  A negative times a negative is positive.

Example(s):

Solve x - 3 = - 2         x - 3 + 3 = - 2 + 3 which becomes x = 1.

Solve - 3x = - 15        (-3x)/(-3) = (-15)/(-3) which becomes x = 5.

Solve x/6 = - 12         (x/6) * 6 = - 12 * 6 which becomes x = - 72.

Solve x + 5 = - 17      x + 5 - 5 = - 17 - 5 which becomes x = - 22.

Directions:

For each equation solve by "undoing" the operation.  Strive to be able to solve the equations with ease and then strive for increasing your speed.  Good luck and enjoy the challenge!
